What is it called?

·        Assisted Living Facility

 

What services are provided?

·        Facility will provide

o       Personal care and health maintenance activities

o       Transportation, spiritual services, shopping, and barber/beauty services

·        Facility may provide

o       Medication administration by licensed health care professional or a medication aide

 

Who can be admitted?

·        Adults who need assistance with personal care

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Must be refused admission or evicted

o       Adults who require complex nursing care

o       Adults who have an unpredictable or unstable condition (unless they arrange the necessary care from an outside source)

·        Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions

o       Resident may stay at facility if the resident arranges to have the necessary care provided by private duty personnel, or by a home health or hospice agency AND

o       Resident’s care does not compromise facility operations or create a danger to others

 

What training is required for direct care staff?

·        Initial orientation

o       Emergency procedures and disaster preparedness

o       Reporting procedures of abuse and neglect

·        Ongoing training

o       At least 12 hours per year on topics appropriate to job duties

 

Is any public payment available?

·        Yes, the Medicaid program may pay for assisted living services through a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver
