What services are provided?
· The facility provides
o Personal care and supervision
o 24-hour assistance with activities of daily living
o Supervision of self-administered medication
o Continuing nursing care (must be temporary, meaning, less than 90 days)
· Third-party services
o Facility does not enter into contracts with third-party providers to offer services, but residents are allowed to arrange for additional health-services from a third-party provider
Who can be admitted?
· Need for assistance with activities of daily living
Who is inappropriate?
· Need for continuous nursing care
o Unless the resident provides for private duty care or other home and community-based services and assumes full legal responsibility for the additional care
o The care must not interfere with facility operations or create a danger to others
· Danger to themselves or others
· Needs cannot be met by the facility
· Consistently disrupt other residents, staff services, or the facility’s general peace and order
What training is required for direct care staff?
· Initial training
o Emergency and evacuation procedures
o The reporting of abuse and critical incidents
o Five days of supervised training to cover at least the following topics:
§ Infection control, including blood-borne pathogens
§ Any specialized training needed to meet residents’ needs
· Continuing education
o Annual training on policies and procedures for medication assistance for employees who assist with self-administration of medications:
